Gold Coast Airport prepares for Easter travel surge

  • 2026-04-01

Gold Coast Airport (GCA) is preparing for a strong Easter period, with more than 80,000 passengers expected to travel through the terminal over the long weekend.

On the busiest days, more than 23,000 travellers are expected through the airport, up from around 16,000 on a typical travel day.

Queensland Airports Limited Chief of Aviation Adam Rowe said new services at Gold Coast Airport have helped to drive passenger growth.

“Since last Easter we’ve seen positive international growth, with Jetstar adding services to Hamilton and Dunedin in New Zealand as well as Bali,” he said.

“Demand for the Trans-Tasman routes in particular has exceeded expectations. From this week, Jetstar has added an extra weekly flight to both Hamilton and Dunedin, increasing services to four flights per week.”

With Queensland and New South Wales school holidays overlapping this year, strong momentum is expected to continue beyond Easter with more than 350,000 passengers expected over the two- week school holiday period.

To support the busy period, GCA has rostered on additional team members across the terminal to assist passengers and help ensure a smooth, seamless journey.

“The busiest days are expected to fall mid-school holidays, with 22,000-23,000 passengers travelling on the 12th, 17th and 19th of April.

“Across the month we’re expecting around 600,000 passengers to travel through the terminal which could mean this April is Gold Coast Airport’s busiest on record,” Mr Rowe said.

Later this year, Gold Coast Airport will welcome Fiji Airways’ new Nadi service and Qantas’ Auckland service, offering travellers greater choice and flexibility while strengthening international connectivity.
