Gold Coast Airport caps off 2025 with December travel records
- 2026-01-15
More Kiwis travelled through Gold Coast Airport last month than any other December on record, with more than 60,500 passengers flying on one of the airport's six Trans-Tasman routes.
It was also a monthly record for domestic travel, with more than half a million domestic passengers and nearly 600,000 passengers in total.
Queensland Airports Limited CEO Amelia Evans said it was a bumper start to summer and a positive way to cap off 2025, which saw more than 6.2 million travellers travel through Gold Coast Airport.
“Our focus continues to be on improving connectivity across all the regions we operate and these results for Gold Coast Airport are largely driven by the increased capacity and new routes added to the airport’s network last year,” Ms Evans said.
“New Zealand is our biggest international market with more than 600,000 travellers flying on one of our six Trans-Tasman routes annually.
“Last year Gold Coast Airport became Australia’s most connected airport to New Zealand, so it’s very encouraging to see demand for these services continuing to grow, with even more capacity being added this year.
“Overall, we saw 14 per cent growth in international passenger numbers in 2025 compared to the year prior, which is a very positive sign.
“This year we’ll also welcome the return of Qantas to our international network, adding a business class option on our busiest international route between the Gold Coast and Auckland.
“We’re also looking forward to welcoming even more international travellers through new connections with Fiji Airways, providing easy access to our region from North America and the wider Pacific via Fiji.”
