GMR’s Delhi Airport receives CII National Award for Excellence in Energy Management and National Energy Leader

Delhi Airport, managed by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a GMR Airports Infrastructure Limited-led consortium, has received the prestigious National Award for Excellence in Energy Management by CII-Green Business Centre (GBC). It has also received National Energy Leader Award for the year 2021.

The announcement was made by CII-GBC during the Energy Efficiency Summit 2022 held on 21st September 2022 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The event was graced by Shri R. K. Rai, Secretary, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India, H.E. Freddy Svane, Ambassador at the Royal Danish Embassy in New Delhi, and Mr Ravi Chandran Purushothaman, Chairman Energy Efficiency Council, CII-GBC & President Danfoss India.

Speaking on the occasion CEO-DIAL, Mr Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said: “Receiving the National Award for Excellence in Energy Management and National Energy Leader award is indeed a testimony to our commitment towards sustainable development. With this achievement, we have set up a new benchmark for other airports in this region to follow. Going forward we are focussing on energy conservation and exploring an alternative solution for generating green energy”.

The award recognizes “Excellence” in Energy Management in industries and facilitates sharing of information by excellent energy-efficient companies. It also aims to instill a sense of competition to motivate Indian industries to achieve energy excellence and promote sustainable development.

The selection was based on presentations by participating companies to an eminent panel of an independent jury formed by CII, having rich industry experience. DIAL presented the “Net Zero Carbon Emission Airport by 2030” roadmap and its progress update, along with the key energy saving and emission reduction initiatives, innovative projects, and other environmental aspects such as waste management, water management, climate change adaptation strategies etc. The initiatives implemented by DIAL were highly appreciated by all the jury members.

Among the participating companies, DIAL was one of the few to receive the prestigious National Award for Excellence in Energy Management. Along with this, DIAL also received National Energy Leader Award for the year 2021, based on its consistent performance at the highest level in the last four years (2018, 2019, 2020 & 2021).
