
China Eastern Airlines launched Macau-Nanchang route with inaugural ceremony

China Eastern Airlines launched its new route between Macau and Nanchang on 10th September 2025, operating the flight with the domestically produced C909 aircraft. To celebrate this new milestone in its route network expansion, the airline held a simple yet grand inaugural ceremony at Macau International Airport (MIA).
On the day of the first flight, the aircraft carried 85 passengers and arrived in Macau around 11:45 a.m. To mark the occasion, MIA arranged a water cannon salute to celebrate the successful inaugural flight. This route marked the first time a Chinese-made aircraft use for commercial flights to Macau. The route schedules to operate every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, offering three weekly round-trip flights between Macau and Nanchang to provide a convenient flight connection between Macau and Jiangxi Province.
During the ceremony, President of Civil Aviation Authority of Macao SAR (AACM) Mr. Pun Wa Kin, delivered the opening speech. Chairman of the Executive Committee of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) Mr. Chan Weng Hong, stated in his address that the new route connected Macau and Nanchang, creating new opportunities for exchange and cooperation between the two cities.
He noted that as the capital of Jiangxi Province, Nanchang is renowned as the “Hero City”, known for its status as the birthplace of the People’s Liberation Army, the Pavilion of Prince Teng, the archaeological site of the Han Dynasty Haihun Marquis and the natural beauty of the Ganjiang River. The launch of route enables Macau residents and tourists another convenient option to explore the historical charm of Nanchang and appreciate its cultural and natural landscapes. At the same time, it opens the door for Nanchang residents to visit Macau, a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure renowned for its blend of Chinese and Western cultures. Chairman Chan expressed his hope that this air link would enhance resource complementarity and industrial collaboration between the two regions, support regional integrated development and serve as an important bridge for facilitating deeper integration into the national development strategy.
Other delegates attended the inaugural flight ceremony to witness the historic moment also included: Mr. Yang Quanzhou, Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Mr. Cheng Wai Tong, Acting Director of Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO); Ms. Linda Chen, the Standing Committee member of the Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC); Mr. Hu Feng, Member CPPCC; Ms. Yang Tiantian, General Manager of China Eastern Airlines Macau Branch; Ms. Anabela Barros, Managing Director of Menzies Macau Airport Services Limited, along with the Executive Directors of CAM, Mr. Chu Tan Neng, Mr. Kan Cheok Kuan, Mr. Lei Si Tai, Mr. Leung Henry Yee Hang and Director of Marketing Department, Mr. Eric Fong.
