Celebrating successful collaboration with HKIA as Zhuhai Airport marks 30 Years of operation
- 2025-06-18
Senior management of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) attended the Zhuhai Airport 30th anniversary special event today, celebrating two decades of close partnership that sees the Zhuhai Airport develop into a leading airport in Mainland China.
AAHK has joined hands with the Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government to manage Zhuhai Airport since 2006 with the setting up of a joint venture, Hong Kong–Zhuhai Airport Management Company Limited. The partnership has significantly enhanced the airport’s operational efficiency, service quality and management standards, with a continuous growth in passenger and cargo throughput.
In 2024, AAHK acquired 35% of Zhuhai Airport’s shares, taking the partnership between the two airports to the next level. In the same year its passenger throughput rose to nearly 13 million, from 0.79 million in 2006. Among Mainland airports that only operate domestics flights, Zhuhai has been handling the highest volume of passenger traffic. And it is the third-largest airport in Guangdong Province.
The officiating guests at the event include Vivian Cheung, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AAHK and Chairman of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai Airport Management Company Limited, Su Hu, Deputy Mayor of the Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government, Albert Yau, General Manager of Hong Kong–Zhuhai Airport Management Company Limited. Other attending guests include representatives from the Zhuhai Airport community and AAHK management.
Vivian Cheung, CEO of AAHK said, "I am delighted with the achievements of Zhuhai Airport. The cooperation between Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and Zhuhai Airport does not only bring more passenger and cargo traffic to Zhuhai Airport, but also enables passengers from the Greater Bay Area (GBA) to enjoy HKIA’s international network by leveraging the connectivity provided by the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge (HZMB). Looking ahead, we will further develop our intermodal services to provide a hassle-free experience for GBA travellers and promote cargo business.”
HKIA has been developing a series of projects with Zhuhai Airport, including the "Fly-Via-Zhuhai-HK" service launched in December 2023, which provides a seamless "air-land-air" transfer service between the two airports. Passengers can first fly from Mainland cities, including those without international ports facilities, to Zhuhai Airport and then make direct transfer with bonded bus travelling via the HZMB to the restricted area of HKIA, where they proceed to board international flights. For cargo front, the Air-Land Fresh Lane service, launched in April 2025, offers a dedicated route for importing live and chilled seafood and fruits from overseas to the GBA via HKIA, HZMB and Zhuhai with streamlining customs clearance and quarantine arrangements.
