Cathay Pacific ramps up Christchurch services for the summer season

Christchurch Airport has welcomed Cathay Pacific's decision to boost its Christchurch to Hong Kong service to five flights a week during the peak summer months, providing South Islanders with more travel choice and stronger connections into Asia, Europe and beyond. 

The seasonal service will operate three times a week between 1 November 2026 and 27 March 2027, increasing to five weekly flights from December through February to meet strong seasonal demand.

Christchurch Airport Chief Executive Justin Watson said the increased schedule reflects the continued strength of the South Island market.

“Cathay Pacific has been a valued Christchurch Airport partner since 2017, and this increase is another vote of confidence in our region. More flights mean more choice for travellers, stronger connections to key international markets, and greater opportunities for South Island exporters."

The extra belly freight capacity means more than just moving cargo, it helps South Island produce reach dinner plates around the world at its very best. From cherries and live seafood to premium chilled meat, the additional flights will help Kiwi exporters deliver fresher products to global markets, supporting the South Islands reputation for world-class produce.

We've seen demand for international travel continue to build and with Cathay's joint venture with Air New Zealand, these extra flights make it even easier for people to get where they want to go."
