CAM Representatives attended ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East Regional Board Meeting, Regional Assembly and various specialized Committee meetings

Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) sent representatives in May 2026 to attend a series of Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific and Middle East meetings held in Bangkok, Thailand, covering the Regional Board, Regional Assembly, environment, aviation security and other related thematic meetings. This reflects Macau International Airport's active participation in, and professional influence within, the regional aviation industry.

 

Executive Director of CAM, Mr. Kan Cheok Kuan, as a member of the ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East Regional Board, attended the 6th ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East Regional Board Meeting and the 3rd ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East Regional Assembly from 12th to 13th May 2026. During the Board Meeting, the minutes of the previous meeting were adopted, and reports on the regional office's activities, the previous year's audited financial statements, the current year's budget implementation, and membership matters were reviewed and approved. The meeting also discussed advocacy plans and performance, operational challenges in the region, and opportunities arising from aviation market development.

 

The 3rd Regional Assembly also approved the minutes of the previous Assembly, the audited financial report for last year, and the implementation of this year's budget. It also approved the admission of new Regional Board members and the reappointment of certain existing members.

 

During the event, CAM received the Airport Carbon Accreditation Level 3 certificate in recognition of its ongoing efforts in sustainable development. In addition, Mr. Kan Cheok Kuan was invited to attend a meeting with global airport CEOs as a discussion panelist, where he introduced the Macau International Airport Expansion Project and the Runway Rehabilitation and Improvement Project, and exchanged views with airport representatives from different regions on aviation-related topics.

 

In the environmental section, Ms. Winkie Choi, Senior Quality and Environmental Engineer of the Airport Operations Department, attended the 20th ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East Regional Environment Committee Meeting and the ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East Regional Assembly, Conference & Exhibition 2026 Award Ceremony, held from 10th to 14th May 2026. During the meeting, participants exchanged views on topics including the Green Airports Recognition Award, Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme, carbon net-zero roadmap, climate change adaptation, environmental sustainability measures, and sustainable aviation fuel. A joint meeting of the Environment Committee and the Operational & Safety Committee was also held to discuss the impact of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in aerodrome operations.

 

In the aviation security section, Mr. Nuno Nunes, Security Quality Control Manager of the Airport Operations Department and Chairman of the ACI Aviation Security Committee for the Asia-Pacific and Middle East Region attended the meeting in Bangkok from 11th to 12th May 2026. The meeting brought together regional airports, regulatory authorities and aviation security experts to jointly review the evolving security landscape and future development priorities. During the meeting, CAM presented the transformation model of Macau International Airport (MIA)'s security checkpoint and the implementation of "MIA One ID" initiative, showcased MIA's progress in smart security screening technology, biometric identification and enhancing the passenger experience that highlighted Macau International Airport (MIA)'s successful modernization of operations, which provides faster, smoother and more rigorous security screening processes, further embodying MIA's innovative and efficient operation philosophy.

 

In addition, prior to the meeting, representative of CAM, Mr. Nuno Nunes also attended the ACI World Security Standing Committee Meeting held in Hong Kong in his capacity as Chairman of the Aviation Security Committee for the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region. He exchanged views with industry representatives on the latest global trends in aviation security, regulatory developments and emerging risks.  Macau International Airport (MIA) will continue to promote safe, modern and passenger-centric airport services through ongoing communication, innovation and the application of technology.
