Built By the Region, For the Region

ACI APAC & MID undertook an extensive regional study to understand the climate vulnerabilities and preparedness levels of airports across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. Rather than applying a generic global framework, we worked directly with member airports to build something tailored to this region's specific geography and operational realities. 48 airport operators contributed to and validated the framework that resulted, turning shared regional insight into two practical, ready-to-use tools.

Study Approach
The study was developed through an extensive regional engagement process, drawing on the real-world experiences of airport operators from across Asia, the Pacific, and the Middle East. The comprehensive pilot phases generated critical data regarding the state of climate resilience across APAC & MID airports.

A dedicated Task Force of airport Subject Matter Experts guided the creation of the step-wise guidance and core tools.

1. Climate Risk Maturity Check Tool

Know where you stand before you invest.

• This foundational assessment evaluates your organization's readiness to manage climate-related risk across six key pillars: governance, data collection, stakeholder engagement, risk identification, adaptation planning, and monitoring.
• You'll walk away with a clear, evidence-based maturity rating, from Aware to Leading, and a precise picture of which domains need immediate attention.
• Tested by 47 airport operators, with most reporting it met or exceeded expectations for building internal awareness and establishing climate governance.

2. Climate Risk Assessment Tool

Turn abstract climate hazards into a concrete action plan.

• This comprehensive matrix helps you identify and rate specific climate risks, extreme heat, heavy rainfall, storms, sea level rise, drought, across near-, mid-, and long-term horizons. 
• It maps each hazard to its real-world consequences for infrastructure, service provision, people, the environment, and finances, so you can connect every risk directly to a targeted adaptation action.
• Piloted across 16 airports, consistently revealing how risk severity escalates over time, giving airports the evidence to prioritize where investment matters most.

• Request Access: Your primary contact reaches out to the ACI APAC & MID Sustainability team to receive the tools and supporting guidance.
• Complete the Assessments: Convene a cross-functional team (sustainability, operations, safety, finance) to complete the Maturity Tool and run a baseline assessment with the Risk Tool.
• Submit Your Data: Share your completed results with ACI APAC & MID to feed into the regional database.
• Receive Insights: On request, get a custom view comparing your airport's maturity and risk profile against aggregated regional benchmarks.
